2 Timothy 1:7
“ For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. “ (NKJV)
We all know what it’s like to be fearful at times because fear is a natural response to danger. A healthy fear keeps us from doing silly things like running across a busy road without looking or picking up a red back spider! On the hand, an unhealthy fear can enslave our whole being if we let it. Some examples of “unhealthy” fears are fear of rejection, fear of failure, fear of death, fear of man etc. These are not of God. The only fear that should ever rule our lives is the fear of God and nothing else.
There’s one common denominator to all unhealthy fear and that is “avoidance”. When we live in fear of something or someone, we will avoid them at all costs!
The enemy uses fear to intimidate and cripple us so that we become ineffective for God. Fear can prevent us from carrying out God’s “assignments” in our lives. For example if we succumb to the “fear of rejection”, we may shy away from reaching out and inviting a work colleague or friend to church. The bible says the fear of man is a snare, even to the very best of us!
God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity that limit us, but instead He has given us His Spirit – a spirit of power, love and a sound mind! So the next time you are intimidated by a challenge or opposition in your quest to obey God, rise above it for we operate out of a different spirit – FEAR NOT!
