Proverbs 21:11 “Simpletons only learn the hard way, but the wise learn by listening.”
Life seems to gives us plenty of opportunities to learn lessons through making mistakes, and when we don’t learn from them, we are generally given other opportunities, until we take the hint. However these ‘opportunities’ are not always pleasant and often appear more like detours.
The word of God tells us that correction and the refining of character are not things to avoid, but rather celebrate; a sign of progress and growth. On the other hand though, this verse reminds us that sometimes those hard lessons can be avoided simply by listening.
God’s word is FULL of wisdom and insight into the issues of life. So not only do we have access to an unlimited supply of wisdom, but when we are planted in the house of God, we are surrounded by leaders and pastors who have dedicated their lives to investing wisdom into us. Let’s make the most of this wisdom and grace so generously given. Let’s be people who learn by listening, not simpletons who learn the hard way.
We are believing: that our hearts would be open to the leading and guiding of the Holy Spirit.
