Perhaps one of the sadder verses of scripture is this one –
2 Kings 20:19 So Hezekiah said to Isaiah,”The word of the LORD which you have spoken is good!” For he said, “Will there not be peace and truth at least in my days?” (NKJV)
Looks good – Hezekiah, king of Judah has heard that though difficult days for his nation are coming, it won’t happen until after his death.
I think that it’s sad when a leader’s focus is on only their generation, not thinking about the one to come! It’s like he’s saying, “So long as it doesn’t happen to me, that’s ok!”
Contrast that with the spirit of a father that says, “I gladly sacrifice my comfort now for the sake of my children’s future!”
Are you building for the next generation, living a great example, encouraging those younger than you – either in age or in the faith?
(Remember, this is not about how old you are right now – it’s about a mindset!)
Everyone leaves – but not everyone leaves a legacy!
We build now the legacy of tomorrow.
